Day 0 minus 2 Packing Day

Today is Packing Day.

How many pairs of socks does one need for a 5-week trip?  There is no overhead compartment to hassle with, no security checks, plenty of space in the Nissan X-Trail.  Soooo, heck, just throw it ALL in.

Photo gear.  Check.
New toothbrush.  Check.
Passports.  Check.
Binoculars.  Check.

And lots and lots of t-shirts.  And jeans.  And assorted footwear.  Hats, don't forget hats.  It's a desert, so that means hot days, cool nights.  Layer.  Sunscreen.  Folding chairs.  Ice chest. Tech stuff, which now includes cables, iPad, laptop, running ipod, car ipod, mini speaker, more cables, external hard drive for all those photos, adaptors, Kindle, USB drives, iPhones, ...

And then.  The doubts start their creeping into my consciousness.  Is this simply too many nights away from the Familiar?  Will the border be as easy as they say?  What if I don't have the right papers?  What if ...?

What would Vasco da Gama do?

Heck, 500 years back, Vasco didn't have GPS.  Didn't have roadside vendors hawking those folding car shade things.  Didn't have a new set of Bridgestone Tires.  And probably didn't have Mimi along to tell him where to park!  Piece of cake.
